Sewing is a lot like life...sure, there are patterns for just about everything, but in order to love what you do, or love what you make, you have to change the pattern to make it your own regardless if the change is a fraction of an inch or the length of a yard. And more often that not, those choices you make to change the pattern do not work out exactly the way you hope. It can be frustrating and challenging, and sometimes you have have to rip it all apart at the seams and start completely over. Which requires patience. A lot of patience. But in doing so, you create something that is far more rewarding, and far more beautiful, then what you started with.

At last! At last!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh. Did you hear that? It is a big sigh of relief because I finally got to work on a new project! And boy, does it feels good.

Because I have spent the last several weeks preparing for the Maple Leaf Festival (read about it here), I haven't had the opportunity to work on any new projects....that is, until this past week! One of my long time friends asked me to create 3 apron/crayon roll combos for holiday gifts for 3 special kiddos in her life, which I was happy to do of course!

And here they are!

Dinosaurs with Navy 3-pocket front

Brown Butterflies with Pink 3 pocket front

Purple Butterflies with Lilac 3 pocket front

This was my first experience working with velcro and it was so easy! I made both the neck and waist strap with velcro so little ones could take them on and off pretty easily on their own...nothing like fostering independance and teaching them to help themselves! :) I also made each apron out of 2 pieces of soft cozy flannel, which I prefer because it is thicker than normal cotton and it holds the shape of the apron a little better. I also topstiched each apron to complete the look. The crayon rolls I made to coordinate with each of the flannel prints.

Have you been working on any new fun sewing projects lately? I have a new holiday project I am working on this week that I will share soon.....think cute little ones in holiday tees and ties.....

Happy Monday!

  2. These aprons are gorgeous! The velcro is a super idea! I hadn't thought of that, makes it so much easier than getting the strap the right size to go over the head, but then not let the apron sit too low at the front!

Thanks for linking this to A Round Tuit!

Hope you have a lovely week!
